Responsive design

Definition

A responsive website automatically adapts its layout to every screen: phone, tablet, computer. More than half of your visitors browse on mobile.

Responsive design stopped being an option long ago: it is a prerequisite. Depending on the sector, 50 to 70% of a Belgian professional website's traffic comes from a phone. A site that forces pinching and zooming on mobile drives clients away, every day, silently.

Being responsive does not just mean "it fits the screen". Real responsive work rethinks the hierarchy of every page for mobile: which message first, which buttons within thumb's reach, which images to lighten, which menu to simplify. It is design work, not a technical setting.

Google has also made it a criterion: indexing happens on the mobile version of your site first (mobile-first indexing). A site that is mediocre on mobile starts with a visibility handicap, on top of losing visitors.

At KernWeb, every page template is designed and tested on mobile, tablet and desktop before approval. It is one of the 5 principles of design that converts.
